Skagit Valley Farmers Market |
|
Visit The Skagit Valley Farmers Market Every Sunday! 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. through September (no market on Sunday, July 4th ) Our mission at the Skagit Valley Farmers Market is to build lasting connections between our community’s residents and the stewards of our farmland, as well as showcase local cultural arts. We strive for a cooperative and family-friendly atmosphere that promotes mutually beneficial interactions among the producers and local residents. As the Vinery construction came to a close, the historic location and open space beckoned to be used as a gathering space celebrating the rich and diverse bounty of Skagit Valley. The Vinery (its name originating from the historic roots of pea vining in Skagit Valley), seemed ripe to host a seasonal farmers market, which we named The Skagit Valley Farmers Market. It showcases the bounty of Skagit-grown fruits, veggies, and handmade crafts of local farmers and artisans. Visitors are welcome to take a seat inside the Vinery and enjoy market sweets and good conversation while observing local photographs on pea vining. We hope the Skagit Valley Farmer’s Market offers a space for experienced and new farmers to share their wisdom, their harvest, and their joy of farming with the locals, as well as out-of-town visitors. Consider the Skagit Valley Farmers Market to be your new Sunday ritual. The Market is located just north of Christianson's Nursery and takes place around the Vinery on Sundays through September 26, from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. |

Remember that classic road trip game where the first person would say “I am going on a trip and I am bringing (fill in the blank)" and then the next person would repeat it and add another item to the list? Eventually, the packing list grew into a jumble of goofy stuff - an accordion, two panda bears, Junior Mints, goldfish, and so on. It might have been silly but it sure helped the miles go by! As we head into July and the official start of road trip season, our Primrose team thought it would be fun to put together a packing list with some of our very favorite items from the gift shop for summer road trips. For example, if we were going on a trip, we would bring... Angie: Salami, cheese, and crackers A roll-up picnic blanket A hand-woven market basket to put everything in A Bucky body wrap to put in the freezer when I need to cool off Brenda: Vintage picnic basket for roadside snacks Cards and hostess gifts for my destination A book about something I always wanted to learn about Puzzles if we are going to the beach or a cabin Eve: Summer hats - a sun hat and a baseball cap Kimono hair clips Walking guides and fun books for summer reading Lots of sunscreen Jaime: Cocktail mixers and colorful paper straws Foreign language flashcards Inspiring books about travel adventures A pretty umbrella to read under when it gets hot Taylor: Botanical coloring books, journals, and notebooks Sibley's Backyard Bird Bingo A portable hammock Camping and hiking guide books Wherever the road takes you this summer, we wish you safe travels and memorable adventures! |

Not this year, deer. With their natural habitats shrinking, deer are becoming a way of life in many residential neighborhoods across the country. One of the best ways to mitigate the damage these herbivores do to herbaceous (and evergreen) plants is to select ones that are not on their preferred menu. Fortunately, there are plenty from which to choose, and we narrowed our list down to 18 gorgeous deer-resistant shrubs that will suit gardens across the country. Below is a link to our list of shrubs on which deer are more unlikely to dine; your experience, of course, may differ. It turns out that deer are much like humans when it comes to food palate — their tastes vary! It should always be noted that especially in winter when pickings are scarce, a hungry deer will eat even the most unlikely plants. We’ve divided these into zones for easy reference, but check out all of the plants below to see the widest number of choices. You can also search Rutgers' handy database of plants for their deer-resistant rating. Let us know if you have any tried-and-true deer-resistant plants in your garden in the comments, or tag us on social media: |
