Washington Shakespearean Festival Director given Key to the City of Beaufort South Carolina

The Director of the Washington Shakespearean Festival, GregRobin Smith (based in Mt Vernon, Washington) was invited to be a guest of the Beaufort SC 250th Anniversary Committee and the OLLI program (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) to present his program on - and as - Dr Benjamin Franklin multiple times over three days of performances to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

At one of the presentations, for the performances and cultural impact on the city those performances had, Smith (as Franklin) was awarded a Key to the City by Beaufort Mayor Phil Cromer.
Approximately 2,000 people saw the program over 14 presentations in the three days of his residency.
Plans are in the works to bring the Good Doctor back for more performances, possibly including workshops on the Chautauqua first-person presentation technique, Shakespeare, and other topics of interest and within the expertise of the performers and educators of the Washington Shakespearean Festival.
